Using SBC Webmail Print E-mail
1. How to login to WebMail system?
 
Go to the common PC in the library and start web browser (IE5 or Firefox). Go to this web address http://mail.sbc.edu.sg (note: without www).Type in your “username” (eg. edwin, without @sbc.edu.sg) and your password, then click [Login] button or press “Enter” key.
 
 
2. How to change password?
 
IT account password can be changed using Student Portal also known as SAS (School Adminstration System). This will affect all IT services access.
 
 
3. How to write a new mail and send it?
 
After login WebMail, click on [Compose] and a blank mail appear. Fill in the “To:” (the recipient address), “Subject:” and your message in the body portion. Then clik on [Send] button.
 
 
4. How to Auto-forward your SBC mails to your personal email account like gmail or Hotmail?
 
After login WebMail, click on [Options], click on [Mail Forwarding Options], you’ll see “Forward Emails To :”, type in your personal email address and [Submit].
 
 
5. After I wrote a long message and click on [Send], it shows Error! How can I get back my message?
 

You can’t ! Your message is gone! This is due to connection time-out while typing long message. To prevent lose of your work, highlight all your message, right-click, select “Copy” (or from menu “Edit”, select “Copy”). In case it shows error when you [Send] it, just [Compose] another new mail and paste your copied message (right-click and “Paste”).

 
 
6. How to use Address Book?
 
To store new address: After login WebMail, click on [Addresses], fill in “Nickname” , “E-mail address” and “First name”. These 3 fields are required fields and “Nickname” must be unique, then click [Add address] button.
 
Alternately, you can store the sender address when reading a mail. Below each mail, there is a button called [Take Address]. Click it and complete the “Nickname” and “First name”.
 
To retrieve address: While composing a new mail, click on [Address] button between “Subject” and body (NOT the [Address] on the top).
 
 
7. How to create folders in WebMail system?
 
After login WebMail, click on [Folders], under “Create folder” type in “Friends” or “Church”, click on [Create] button. Then click on (refresh folder list) on right side.
 

 

8. How to attach files?
 
While composing a new mail, you can findAttach :” and [Browse…] button at the bottom. Click on [Browse…] and a browse window pop up, allow you to look for your files you want to attach, if your document is in floppy diskette, pull down the Look in :” list box and select A: drive. After you have selected your file for attach, it will be written in “Attach :” eg. “A:OTPsalms 23.doc”. Don’t forget to click on [Add] button or else it is NOT attached! You can continue to [Browse…], and [Add] a few files.
 
 
9. How can I access  my SBC e-mail at home using a program like microsoft outlook instead of Internet browsers?
 
You need to connect to you ISP (like Pacific Net), then change you pop3 setting of your outlook program to point to mail.sbc.edu.sg, but your outgoing smtp will need to be your ISP smtp server (like: mail.pacific.net.sg). The username and password are from the password slip that we issued to you.
 
 
11. Does SBC WebMail supports Chinese characters?
 
Yes, you can read and write chinese characters that are in unicode encoding.
